Get the installation documents before delivery
Ask the supplier for the exact model's installation manual and electrical information. Product families can include different configurations, so a sales photograph or an approximate size is not enough. Send the documents to Guardian with the proposed location and any dealer requirements for commissioning.
Explain whether the hot tub is new, relocated or replacing an existing unit. An old connection does not automatically suit a replacement model. A previous owner's statement that the hookup “worked fine” is not a substitute for assessing the equipment and installation.
Show the full setting around the tub
Provide a simple plan of the tub, nearby structures, doors, equipment and intended walking routes. Include decking, a pergola or landscaping that may be installed at the same time. The electrical assessment needs to account for the surrounding conditions and required access, rather than treating the tub as an isolated appliance.
Take photographs only from a safe position with electrical covers closed. Do not move wiring, open equipment or begin a trench based on a rough route discussed by phone. Final placement and the installation method need to be coordinated before construction closes off options.
Keep delivery and electrical readiness separate
The delivery team, site contractor and electrician may have different responsibilities. Identify who prepares the base, places the tub, supplies any manufacturer-specific parts and performs the final equipment startup. Ask what must be completed before each visit so a delivered tub does not become an assumption that the electrical work is ready.
- Exact make, model and installation instructions.
- Final position and surrounding construction plans.
- Known delivery date and site-access constraints.
- Property contact and person authorized to approve changes.
- Responsibility for any disturbed ground or finishes.
Ask what the electrical proposal includes
The proposal should identify the supply work, protection and disconnect arrangements, applicable bonding work, routing, permit coordination and completion checks. These details depend on the equipment and site; they should not be selected from a generic online breaker-size chart. Confirm whether existing equipment needs evaluation or alteration.
For a Carolina Forest or Conway home, send the full street address. The responsible permit office and project requirements are established for that property. Delivery availability and inspection availability are separate scheduling questions.
Use the tub only after the installation is ready
CPSC provides electrical-safety guidance for pools, spas and hot tubs. Water and electrical equipment require particular care. Do not use a temporary extension-cord arrangement to get a newly delivered tub running, and keep the equipment out of use if electrical safety is in doubt. Ask the installer and dealer to explain the completed checks and the ongoing user instructions before use.
