Confirm the provider for the actual address
Look at the current electric bill or ask the owner or property manager which company supplies the address. For a new site, confirm availability with the utility before ordering service equipment. A town name or ZIP code alone does not establish the provider. In a multi-unit property, identify the correct unit and meter with the account holder; do not open meter equipment.
Guardian is an independent electrical contractor serving all of Horry County and all of Georgetown County. These are official utility resources, not utility affiliations or a promise of service territory.
Official utility starting points
Horry Electric Cooperative
Horry Electric's electric service page separates residential, commercial and contractor/developer requests. Use the appropriate route for an existing account or new construction. Its meter-base guidance covers connection specifications and access, and its outage center provides reporting options.
Santee Cooper
Santee Cooper identifies portions of Horry and Georgetown counties in its start-service guidance. Confirm the specific address. Its new-home process distinguishes temporary service, the permanent meter base, local inspections and the utility's linework. Builders can also use the official construction forms and specifications.
Duke Energy Progress
If the bill names Duke Energy Progress, use Duke's address-based provider check and select the correct service location. Its start, stop and move service page handles account changes. For construction work, consult the builder resources and temporary power-disconnect information; location-specific requirements must be confirmed with Duke.
City of Georgetown Electric Utility
The city's Electric Utility Department page directs new-account and billing questions to Finance, while outages, service requirements and service-location questions go to the Electric Department. Follow the contacts on that page after confirming city electric service at the address. A Georgetown mailing address alone is not enough.
Santee Electric Cooperative
This is a separate organization from Santee Cooper. Its official service-area information includes Georgetown County. Use its service application resources or official contact and outage-reporting page when it is the provider on the account. Confirm service for a new parcel directly.
Plan the disconnect, work and reconnection together
- Owner or account holder: identify the provider, authorize the request, supply the service address and arrange access. Tell everyone about tenants, operating hours and equipment that cannot lose power without a plan.
- Electrician: assess the proposed loads and customer-side equipment, define the work, and coordinate utility specifications and permit requirements. A panel or service upgrade may involve more than the equipment inside the house.
- Utility: confirm its connection requirements, equipment responsibilities, available capacity and any planned service interruption. Ask who schedules the disconnect and reconnect and what must be complete first. Do not assume the meter base and meter have the same owner.
- Permitting authority: confirm applicable permits, inspections and release requirements. Our local area pages link to city and county resources. Inspection approval and utility crew scheduling are separate milestones.
Agree on this sequence before setting a shutdown date. Confirm responsibility for fees, linework, trenching, restoration and additional visits in the proposal. Utility work and inspection availability can affect timing; an electrical appointment does not guarantee same-day reconnection. For new construction, discuss temporary power and permanent service early.
Utility outage or a problem at the property?
Report a suspected supply outage to the provider through its official channels. A neighbor having power does not prove the fault is inside your home: Duke's outage guidance explains that individual service damage and different supply circuits can affect neighboring properties differently.
If a few outlets or lights fail, or breakers repeatedly trip, describe the symptoms when requesting electrical troubleshooting. Leave covers and meter seals in place. Stay away from downed lines, damaged service equipment and flooded electrical areas; report utility hazards promptly. For smoke, fire or immediate danger, leave the area and call emergency services.
What to send Guardian
Send the address, utility name, project description, equipment models and preferred timing. Include the utility's project reference or contact if one has already been assigned. An exterior photo can help when safe to take; account passwords and payment details belong with the utility. We will discuss the electrical scope and the coordination needed for your property.
