Start with the equipment
Share the generator model and the loads you want to support. A refrigerator, selected lights, and larger equipment have different needs. The electrical connection scope should be planned around the actual equipment and intended use.
Define the electrical scope
Generator connection work may involve transfer equipment and changes at the electrical service. Confirm what is included in the electrical proposal and which fuel, placement, or other work belongs to another provider.
Surge protection is a separate conversation
If you are interested in protection at the service equipment, share a photo of the closed panel and describe any existing protection. A surge device does not provide backup power; these address different concerns.
Plan before the next outage
Discuss access, equipment availability, any interruption to power, and project timing before setting an installation date. If you already have equipment, send the manufacturer documentation along with your request.

Can I connect a generator through a wall outlet?
No. Do not connect a generator to a wall outlet. Arrange a properly planned electrical connection with a qualified electrician.
