Electrical power for sheds and detached garages

A shed used for storage and a garage used as a workshop need different electrical plans. Guardian brings power to detached structures and installs the agreed lighting, outlets and equipment connections around how you will use the space.

Tell us about your project

List the work the building will support

Explain whether the space needs basic lights and convenience outlets, tools, a refrigerator, heating and cooling equipment or another specific load. Send model or nameplate information for equipment you already own. A general wish for more power is less useful than a list of what may operate together.

If you are changing an existing shed or garage, identify the current supply and the new use. An existing outlet does not show what additional equipment it can support. Guardian reviews the proposed demand and installation before recommending a circuit arrangement or any related equipment changes.

Consider both buildings and the route between them

Distance, accessible routing, paving, landscaping and other work planned for the property affect the installation. Share a simple sketch showing the main building, detached structure and approximate path. Let us know about new driveways, patios or foundations so electrical planning can happen before access is restricted.

The existing electrical supply matters as much as the new building. Additional panel spaces and additional service capacity are different questions. Depending on the intended use and site, the project may involve a circuit, a feeder and subpanel, or other changes established during review; there is no one-size package for every garage.

Make the finished space practical

Plan bench positions, storage, door movement, switch locations and overhead lighting before choosing outlet locations. If walls are open now but will be finished later, discuss that stage early. Include outdoor receptacles or lighting only where they are part of the agreed scope.

Costs depend on equipment demand, route length, access, trenching or surface-restoration arrangements, interior finish and the existing supply. Identify who handles work outside the electrical installation. For an occupied property, discuss access and any interruptions at the main building as well as the work in the new structure.

Guardian serves homes and businesses in Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, all of Horry County and all of Georgetown County. We travel to your property; share the address and scope so we can discuss the next step. See our service areas.

Questions about shed and garage wiring

Can you add power to a shed that currently has none?

Yes. Send its intended use, location and equipment list. Guardian reviews a suitable electrical supply and routing based on the property rather than assuming a nearby outlet is the right source.

Can the garage support workshop tools or a mini-split?

Share the exact equipment specifications and how the space will be used. We can discuss the electrical circuits and connections; HVAC equipment installation and tool servicing belong to their respective providers.

Should I wait until the shed is finished?

Contact us while the location and layout are being planned. Electrical routing and interior wiring may be easier to coordinate before paving or wall finishes are complete, with timing confirmed for the actual project.
