Under-cabinet lighting installation

Under-cabinet lighting brings light closer to the counter or work surface. Guardian installs and replaces these systems, planning the fixtures, power supply and controls around the cabinetry and the way you use the space.

Choose the type of light, then the layout

LED tape can follow a cabinet run for a continuous appearance. Linear fixtures provide light in defined lengths, while puck lights create individual points of illumination. The useful choice depends on cabinet breaks, work areas, surface reflections and the look you want when the lights are off.

Show the cabinet dimensions, sink and appliance locations, and any open shelving. Discuss brightness and color appearance alongside the existing room lighting. A brighter product is not automatically a better fit when glare or reflections make a work surface uncomfortable.

Hardwired, plug-in and low-voltage systems

Some systems use a hardwired connection; others use an approved plug-in supply. Low-voltage tape and puck lights need a suitable driver or power supply matched to the product. Low voltage describes part of the system; it does not eliminate the need to plan the connection supplying it.

The location of the supply, accessible servicing and cable routes should be decided with the cabinet layout. Not every tape can be cut or joined in the same way. Guardian reviews the selected product instructions instead of treating separate strips, connectors and drivers as interchangeable parts.

Dimming and controls need compatibility

A dimmable light still needs the right driver and control arrangement. Some systems accept an appropriate wall dimmer; others use their own low-voltage controller. Mixing incompatible controls can cause flicker or poor operation. Send the exact product models before buying replacements for one part of a system.

Tell us whether you want one switch for the whole run, separate zones or a compatible smart control. For a failed installation, describe whether the whole run or one section is affected. Guardian can review the supply and controls rather than assuming every dark section needs new lighting.

Coordinate before the backsplash is finished

New cabinetry, tile and outlet locations can affect wiring access. Existing kitchens can also be reviewed for a retrofit, with the cable route and visible finishes agreed in advance. Fixture length, number of runs, controls, access and any needed circuit work affect the estimate.

Questions about under-cabinet lighting

Can you replace old under-cabinet lights with LED lighting?

Yes. Send photos and product information if safely available. The existing power arrangement and mounting need review; a new LED fixture may require a different driver or control.

Can I supply the lighting kit?

Yes, share the complete model and instructions before scheduling. Guardian can review its connection, controls and suitability for the location before confirming the installation scope.

Do you have to open all the walls?

Not necessarily. Access depends on the wiring route, cabinetry and existing supply. Discuss acceptable visible routing and any finish repairs before work begins rather than assuming a completely concealed route is always available.
