Start with the loads you want to support
Make a practical list: refrigeration, selected lights, essential receptacles or business equipment. Include model information for larger loads and explain your priorities during an outage. A generator’s advertised output alone does not tell us which combinations of equipment it can support. We review the generator, electrical system and intended use together.
Portable and standby arrangements
A portable-generator connection is a different project from an automatic standby system. Share whether you own the generator, its model and connection information, and any existing inlet or transfer equipment. We assess suitable transfer arrangements and the installation scope before recommending equipment. Fuel supply, placement, exhaust and other-trade work must be coordinated for the specific system.
Transfer equipment installation and repair
Transfer equipment manages the connection between utility supply and generator power. Guardian can discuss new transfer switches, replacement or troubleshooting of existing equipment, generator wiring, load review and functional testing. If a generator runs but the intended circuits do not receive power, describe that symptom separately from a generator that will not start.
A safe connection is essential
Do not connect a generator to building wiring through an ordinary wall outlet or an improvised cord. Properly designed transfer equipment is essential to prevent unsafe backfeeding. Operate portable generators outdoors, away from building openings, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. See Electrical Safety Foundation generator guidance.
Guardian serves homes and businesses in Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, all of Horry County and all of Georgetown County. We travel to your property; share the address and scope so we can discuss the next step. See our service areas.
Questions about generator connections
Can I use a portable generator with selected home circuits?
A suitable generator and properly planned connection may support selected circuits. Send the generator model and the loads you want to run so we can review the arrangement.
Can you diagnose a generator that will not transfer?
Yes. Tell us whether the generator starts, whether it reports an alarm and which circuits remain without power. We confirm the equipment and scope before scheduling diagnostic work.
Does electrical installation include fuel piping?
The proposal should identify the electrical work and any separate fuel, mechanical or site work. We confirm the required coordination rather than assume all trades are included.
