About this service
Tell us about your project
The system is more than a card reader
An access-control installation can include a controller, reader, door position sensor, request-to-exit device, lock hardware and power supply. Components must work together, and the door itself must be suitable. We review the equipment and intended access rules with the authorized property representative before specifying wiring.
A CLEAR PLAN FROM THE FIRST CONVERSATION
What the work involves
Define the equipment and connections
Review the selected devices, controls, power requirements and communication connections. Confirm the functions needed before choosing wiring.
Plan routes and device locations
Lay out cable routes, terminations and mounting locations around access and equipment instructions. Identify network, mechanical or other trade dependencies.
Confirm scope, permits and scheduling
We identify permit and inspection requirements for the property jurisdiction. Utility coordination is included when the work affects its equipment or supply. You receive the proposed scope before approving the work.
Complete the work and check operation
We complete the agreed electrical work, test the relevant installation and explain operation, findings and any follow-up. Required official inspections are a separate part of completion.

Keep emergency exit behavior central
Controlled entry and safe exit are different requirements. Locking hardware, power-loss behavior and any required interface with the fire or life-safety system need project-specific review. Do not assume that adding a reader permits changing how an exit door releases. Door hardware, approvals and fire-system responsibilities must be coordinated.
Power, data and ongoing operation
Controllers may need network connections and backup-power provisions. The design should explain which functions remain available during power or network loss. Accounts, credentials and administrator ownership belong to the authorized customer. Subscription and remote-management features depend on the selected platform.
Plan a retrofit without losing access
A retrofit needs door-by-door scheduling, temporary access arrangements and testing of the agreed functions. Cable routes, door construction, hardware changes and interfaces affect the price. Provide door photos, the equipment platform and a description of who uses each entrance. We confirm the system scope and coordinate specialist approvals before work begins.

Planning work at your business
Send the drawings, equipment specifications, site address and target schedule for a scoped proposal. Identify the person authorized to approve the work and any landlord or property-management requirements.
- Access and interruptions: identify operating hours, restricted rooms and equipment that must remain available. Shutdowns and any phased or after-hours work must be agreed before scheduling.
- Bid requirements: share your insurance-document requests, site safety procedures, permit requirements and closeout checklist so we can confirm what the project needs.
- Scope and responsibility: identify who supplies equipment, coordinates other trades and approves changes. Ask about testing and completion documentation for the proposed work.

Service area, permits and scheduling
Inside city limits, the City of Myrtle Beach Construction Services Department handles electrical trade permits and inspections. In unincorporated Horry County, the relevant authority is Horry County Code Enforcement. The property jurisdiction and proposed scope determine the requirements; a Myrtle Beach mailing address alone does not establish the responsible department.
Santee Cooper serves Myrtle Beach customers. Utility coordination is needed only when the proposed work affects the utility supply or requires its involvement. Confirm the provider on your bill; service territories vary across the wider area.
Whether the property is in Carolina Forest, around The Market Common or along Kings Highway, share access and occupancy requirements early. Guardian serves all of Horry County and all of Georgetown County. We identify who is responsible for permits, power interruptions, other-trade work and completion checks in the proposed scope.
Project quotes are free; diagnostic and service-call charges are explained before booking. Guardian provides 24/7 electrical service; call to confirm current availability and scheduling. We offer a two-year installation warranty on everything we install; ask how it applies to the proposed work. View our license and credentials.
Your questions, answered
Can you wire an existing card-access system?
Share its make, model and documentation. Proprietary interfaces and existing configurations must be reviewed before compatibility or programming is promised.
Is access control the same as a burglar alarm?
No. Access control governs entry; an alarm has detection and notification functions. A project may include interfaces, but each system needs its own agreed responsibility.
Can you reuse the old cables when I replace this system?
Existing cable can only be reused when its type, condition and route suit the new equipment. Connector shape alone is not a compatibility check. Send the model information, cable details and desired function so the wiring can be assessed.
Will new wiring fix a device that keeps going offline?
New wiring does not automatically resolve network, configuration or equipment faults. We distinguish the electrical and cabling work from router, software and account issues. The proposed scope identifies testing and configuration responsibilities.
Based in Myrtle Beach, Guardian serves all of Horry County and all of Georgetown County. See our service area and verify our South Carolina license.
