Standard, tamper-resistant and weather-resistant outlets
A standard duplex receptacle provides two plug-in positions. Its electrical rating and configuration must suit the circuit and equipment; a different-looking face does not create additional power or change a 120V circuit into 240V.
Tamper-resistant, or TR, receptacles use internal shutters to restrict access by foreign objects. Weather-resistant, or WR, receptacles are designed for exposed environmental conditions. Those are different features: a device may have both, and outdoor work also needs the appropriate enclosure and cover.

USB charging and smart receptacles
USB-A and USB-C outlets add charging ports. Compare the device’s charging needs, supported Power Delivery features and available output when multiple ports are used. The USB connector shape alone does not establish charging speed.
Smart receptacles can switch compatible plug-in loads through supported controls or an app. Load ratings, wiring requirements, network compatibility and indoor/outdoor suitability vary by model. Tell us what you want to control before buying a device; a smart outlet is not a universal controller for every appliance.

GFCI and AFCI mean different kinds of protection
GFCI protection responds to ground faults to help reduce electric-shock risk. AFCI protection addresses dangerous arcing that can start a fire. Dual-function products combine both. Depending on the installation, protection may be provided by a receptacle, a breaker or an appropriate combination; the buttons on one outlet do not describe the whole circuit.
Guardian reviews the existing wiring and location before recommending a device. Replacing a two-slot receptacle with a three-slot face does not create an equipment-grounding path. Share the concern without removing the outlet or cover.

Plan the location and the estimate
Send the room, intended equipment and whether this is a replacement or new position. Device type, box space, wiring condition, wall access and any new circuit affect cost. For renovations, coordinate outlet positions with cabinets, furniture and finished surfaces before the work is fixed in place.

Questions about outlet installation
Can you replace just one worn or loose outlet?
Yes. Describe the location and problem. A worn receptacle may need replacement, but the circuit and connection must be reviewed if there are signs of a wider fault.
Does a USB outlet give the circuit more capacity?
No. USB charging adds a convenient function; it does not increase the capacity of the circuit supplying it. Equipment demand still needs to suit the installation.
Can you add an outlet where there is none?
Yes. Guardian reviews a suitable wiring route, the intended use and whether an existing circuit or a new dedicated circuit is appropriate before confirming the scope.
Outlets placed around the way you use the room
Floor outlets, recessed TV receptacles, furniture locations and island or pop-up devices need planning around the actual space. Tell us what the outlet will serve and where furniture, cabinetry or equipment will sit. A floor assembly must suit its location; a kitchen counter device needs review against the product instructions and applicable installation requirements. A half-hot or switched receptacle also needs the intended lamp and switch arrangement understood before replacement. We can discuss new locations, relocation and repair as well as changing a worn device. For outdoor locations, share the exposure and whether a cord will remain connected so the device and cover can be selected together.
