Explain what you want the lighting to do
Start with the areas that need attention: a dark entrance, walkway, driveway, outdoor seating area or a feature you would like to highlight. Tell us whether you want continuous light, timed operation or motion-based control. A useful plan begins with the purpose and viewing angles rather than a fixture count alone.
For a replacement, share the existing fixture location and the new product information. For a new location, show the area and any nearby electrical equipment from a safe, accessible position. Equipment selection should suit its outdoor exposure and mounting conditions.
Coordinate the fixtures, power and controls
Landscape and security lighting can involve different products, supply arrangements and controls. Send the model details for fixtures, transformers or controls you already have, and identify whether the project is an extension of an existing system or a new installation. Components should be reviewed as a working system.
Discuss light direction, nearby windows, neighboring properties and the areas people need to see. The goal is useful coverage without treating brighter as automatically better. Guardian can review the installation with you; no particular security outcome is guaranteed by adding a light.
Plan access and maintainability
Masonry, roof height, vegetation, paving and buried routing can affect installation and later access. Include upcoming landscape or hardscape work in the conversation so the electrical route is considered before surfaces are finished. Agree on responsibility for any digging or surface restoration outside the electrical scope.
For lights that have stopped working, describe which fixtures are affected and whether the problem changes with weather or controls. Leave damaged or wet electrical equipment alone. The estimate depends on fixture quantity, mounting, access, routing, control changes and the condition of the existing installation; replacing one porch fixture differs from lighting an entire property.

Questions about outdoor lighting
Can you install a motion-activated security light?
Yes. Share the desired coverage, mounting location and selected model if you have one. Power availability, controls and access are reviewed before confirming the installation.
Can you expand an existing landscape-lighting system?
Possibly, after reviewing the current equipment and proposed additions. Fixture and supply compatibility matter; adding more lights is not automatically a simple extension.
Is this the same as permanent holiday lighting?
They serve different goals. This page focuses on usable exterior light, pathways and landscape features. Guardian also offers permanent outdoor and holiday lighting; that separate service page covers roofline effects and product planning.
