Whole-Home & Partial Rewiring

Home rewiring can involve one affected area or a larger replacement of existing wiring. Guardian reviews what is present and what you want to change before defining the work, access and disruption involved.

What the Work Involves

Review the plans and intended use

Walk through the construction or renovation scope, equipment loads and desired outlet, switch and lighting locations.

Coordinate rough-in and finish work

Plan wiring routes and project stages around framing, other trades and access. Define what is included in electrical work and any separate finish repairs.

Confirm scope, permits and scheduling

We identify permit and inspection requirements for the property jurisdiction. Utility coordination is included when the work affects its equipment or supply. You receive the proposed scope before approving the work.

Complete the work and check operation

We complete the agreed electrical work, test the relevant installation and explain operation, findings and any follow-up. Required official inspections are a separate part of completion.

House rewire cost and older wiring assessment

House rewire cost depends on the extent of replacement, accessible routes, occupied areas, equipment and the existing supply. Describe what prompted the request and which parts of the property are involved. A partial repair and complete rewiring should have different written scopes.

If an inspection identifies knob-and-tube wiring, send the written findings and locations when discussing knob and tube wiring replacement. Guardian reviews the actual installation before agreeing the replacement work; the property’s age alone does not establish what wiring is present. Read the cost-planning guide for proposal questions.

Define what needs to be replaced

Tell us why you are considering rewiring: a renovation, known damaged wiring, an inspection report, unreliable circuits or plans for different equipment. The age of a house alone does not tell us the condition of every circuit. Accessible wiring and the actual concern need to be reviewed together.

Guardian provides whole-home and partial rewiring, including aluminum wiring replacement or replacement of outdated knob-and-tube wiring where that is the agreed scope. Identifying an installation is different from assuming the correct remedy. Describe what you know and share existing reports; leave electrical covers and concealed wiring undisturbed.

Plan around the people and the building

An occupied home needs a practical sequence. Discuss which rooms are in daily use, access to attic or crawlspace areas and when interruptions to power can occur. Finished walls, tile, cabinets and ceilings affect how wiring can be reached and what restoration may be needed.

If a remodel will open walls, bring the electrician into planning before those surfaces are closed. Establish which areas will be opened, who handles repairs to finishes and how newly discovered conditions will be discussed. A room-by-room approach may suit some projects, but the circuit layout and site determine what can reasonably be separated.

Understand the scope beyond the wire

A rewiring proposal should identify the areas and circuits included, device locations, necessary equipment changes and agreed exclusions. New appliances or changes in room use can add requirements beyond replacing wiring in its original arrangement.

Cost and timing depend on the amount of replacement, access, circuit routing, finished surfaces, occupancy and any related panel or service work. A new panel and a rewire are different projects; neither should be assumed to include the other. Guardian can explain the relationship after reviewing the existing installation and intended use.

Map circuits before choosing room-by-room replacement

An existing circuit may serve more than one room. Replacing wiring in a kitchen, bedroom or addition therefore starts with understanding what the circuit also supplies. The assessment considers accessible wiring condition, device connections, grounding and protection, then identifies what can be retained and what the agreed replacement must include.

For older aluminum branch wiring, the material and connection arrangement need careful identification. Repair methods and replacement are different choices that require an appropriate assessment; the presence of aluminum elsewhere in the electrical service is not the same finding. We explain the identified issue without using the age of the building as a blanket reason to replace everything.

Common questions before booking

Does a new electrical panel also rewire the house?

No. A panel replacement changes the distribution equipment; existing branch-circuit wiring can remain unless replacement is part of the proposal. We identify the relationship between panel work and the specific wiring concerns at your property.

Can rewiring happen while we live in the home?

Often the work can be planned in stages, but access and circuit arrangements determine what is practical. Identify rooms that must remain in use and discuss planned interruptions, work areas and finish repairs before scheduling.

Does one tripping circuit mean the whole home needs rewiring?

No. Overload, an appliance fault or an isolated connection problem may have a narrower remedy. Diagnosis should establish the cause before a whole-home replacement is proposed.

Is all aluminum wire a reason to rewire?

No. The type, location and connections matter. Older aluminum branch-circuit wiring is a different issue from aluminum conductors designed and correctly installed for a service or feeder. An assessment identifies the actual installation and suitable correction.

How are the quote and diagnostic charges handled?

Guardian offers free quotes for planned projects. A fault-finding visit or service call can involve a diagnostic charge, explained before booking. Access, equipment requirements and the work identified determine the proposed repair or installation scope.
