Well, Sump & Lift-Pump Circuits

Reliable pump power starts with the right supply, motor requirements, controls and protection. Tell us which pump you have and what it is doing.

What the Work Involves

Match the circuit to the equipment

Review the model number, electrical rating and existing supply before choosing wiring or protection.

Plan the connection and cable route

Confirm the mounting or outlet location, access, disconnects and any work through finished areas.

Confirm scope, permits and scheduling

We identify permit and inspection requirements for the property jurisdiction. Utility coordination is included when the work affects its equipment or supply. You receive the proposed scope before approving the work.

Complete the work and check operation

We complete the agreed electrical work, test the relevant installation and explain operation, findings and any follow-up. Required official inspections are a separate part of completion.

Different pumps do different jobs

A well pump supplies water; a sump pump removes collected water; a septic lift pump moves wastewater to a higher point in the system. Irrigation and fountain pumps have their own operating conditions. Their voltage, starting demand, controls and exposure can differ. We use the actual motor and control specifications rather than assuming that every pump needs the same outlet.

New circuits and existing faults need different work

For a new installation, the electrical plan considers panel capacity, cable route, disconnecting means, grounding and the required protection. For a pump that stops, trips or behaves intermittently, we investigate the supply and controls and coordinate with the pump provider where mechanical or process faults may be involved. Never bypass ground-fault protection or repeatedly force a tripping circuit back on.

Keep controls, alarms and access in the plan

Float switches, pressure controls and high-water alarms have different functions. An alarm does not replace the pump supply, and a working receptacle does not prove that a motor or controller is healthy. Locate equipment for appropriate exposure and future service access. Below-ground and wet locations need equipment and wiring suited to the environment.

What to send for a quote or diagnosis

Send the pump and controller model, nameplate information visible without removing covers, the approximate route and when the issue happens. Tell us whether there is a high-water condition or loss of water service. Wiring distance, trenching, controls, access and coordination with other trades affect the cost. Pump replacement, plumbing and wastewater-system work are separately defined from the electrical scope.

Common questions before booking

Can you repair the electrical supply without replacing the pump?

Possibly. Diagnosis separates supply, wiring and controls from motor or mechanical faults. The findings determine the work.

Does a backup pump need a separate plan?

Yes. Battery and secondary-pump arrangements have equipment-specific instructions, charging needs and maintenance requirements. Share the exact system before planning its supply.

Can the existing outlet power my new equipment if the plug fits?

A matching plug does not establish that an existing circuit is suitable for new equipment. We review the model’s supply requirements, circuit condition and protection. Voltage, the electrical supply level, and current requirements both matter.

Does this equipment need its own dedicated circuit?

The equipment instructions, electrical demand and applicable rules determine the circuit arrangement. A dedicated circuit, a separate supply for particular equipment, can avoid overloading a shared circuit. Share the model information before purchasing or scheduling.

How are the quote and diagnostic charges handled?

Guardian offers free quotes for planned projects. A fault-finding visit or service call can involve a diagnostic charge, explained before booking. Access, equipment requirements and the work identified determine the proposed repair or installation scope.
